For Sunday evening services, the Lord has lead me to do a Bible study for practical Bible verses in Mark. Please come back to these Bible lessons in order to review them and learn them. Whenever we have learned the meaning of Bible verses and think about them throughout each day, we will be in perfect peace (Isaiah 26:3). Not only that, but when we are in a situation in our daily lives and are tempted to sin, we can think back to what we have learned from the Bible and say to ourselves, "The Bible says to not do what I am tempted to say, think, do, and/or desire right now, so I am going to refuse to give in to this temptation." This is what Romans 12:2 means, and it says, "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." This is also the pattern that Jesus used when the devil tempted Him to sin in Matthew 4:1-11.

Chapter 1

THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO MARK

Mark 1:16-20

16Now as he walked by the sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and Andrew his brother casting a net into the sea: for they were fishers. 17And Jesus said unto them, Come ye after me, and I will make you to become fishers of men. (This means that Jesus was going to show them how they can tell others how they can become Christians.) 18And straightway they forsook their nets, and followed him. 19And when he had gone a little further thence, he saw James the son of Zebedee, and John his brother, who also were in the ship mending their nets. 20And straightway he called them: and they left their father Zebedee in the ship with the hired servants, and went after him.

These were four men who left everything behind (their jobs and family) and followed Jesus. If the Holy Spirit urges and gives someone thoughts that He wants them to leave all behind and become a missionary or evangelist, they need to do that.

Although, Jesus doesn't call everyone to leave everyone and everything behind like He does a modern day missionary and evangelist. It is also true that God didn’t call everyone in Jesus’ day to do those things either. Luke 8:26-39 prove this. In this event, Legion wanted to travel with Jesus for the rest of his life, but Jesus wanted him to return to his home and tell how much God had done for him (Luke 8:39). God had planned for Legion to witness to the people who saw him in the horrible condition he used to be in, so God would be glorified and people would come to Christ. Therefore, this proves that God hasn’t planned for everyone to go town to town in order to preach and teach like Jesus did. Ephesians 4:11 also proves this, and it says, “And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers;” Clearly, God has called many people to be pastors and have families (for example) in our day and time, and they aren’t able to become homeless and go town to town and witness, preach, teach, and perform miracles like Jesus did. Many pastors today do follow (imitate and obey) Jesus and prove to be saved, even though they don’t go town to town and teach and perform miracles. Therefore, discipleship and following Jesus shouldn’t be defined as, “becoming homeless and going town to town in order to witness, preach, teach, and perform miracles.”

However, God calls everyone to become a Christian, and that means He calls them to follow Jesus - Chapter 1 and 5 of this book - www.areyousureyouaresaved.com explain this; if someone wants to become a Christian, they need to be consciously or unconsciously willing to follow Jesus - explained in the same chapters. Chapter 39 of the same book explains how to begin to follow Jesus.
